
Ms. Shiyana Gunasekara

Shiyana Gunasekara is the U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s Lead for Global Clean Cooking Access and also serves as the Deputy Director for the Office of African and Middle Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy.
Her work focuses on mobilizing investment in energy infrastructure, strengthening LPG supply chains, and identifying opportunities to support the rapid scaling of clean cooking access across emerging economies, especially in Africa. Previously, Ms. Gunasekara served as a senior economic advisor on international LNG markets for the Office of International Affairs.
Prior to joining the federal government, Ms. Gunasekara advised energy companies, financial institutions, and government clients on global energy markets, infrastructure development, and regulatory policy. She earned her degrees from Johns Hopkins University, School for Advanced International Studies and Pitzer College of the Claremont Colleges. Originally from southern California, Ms. Gunasekara is based in Washington, D.C.
