Paterne is fundamentally a petroleum engineer, having graduated in 2004 from the National Polytechnic Institute Houphouët Boigny in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

Since April 2025, he has held the position of Head of Production, Maintenance, and Management of the Bitumen Depot, as well as Acting Head of the Development and Innovation Projects structure at the Multinational Bitumen Company (SMB) in Abidjan.

Previously, he held various positions from 2004 to 2006 as an Engineer in the Manufacturing Office (Scheduling) under a professional contract at the Ivorian Refining Company (SIR) in Abidjan, and joined SMB in 2006, also occupying various roles such as Production Engineer, Production and Maintenance Engineer, responsible for bitumen crude valuation studies, and Production Manager until April 2025.
