Joël Dervain holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Montreal.

After spending three and a half years at the National Petroleum Company in Côte d'Ivoire (PETROCI), he joined the teams of SIR in August 1983, where he successively held positions in commercial activities and Human Resources until January 2001. In February 2001, he was appointed General Manager, a position he held until his retirement from SIR in December 2011.

Mr. Dervain is one of the Founding Members of ARA, which was created in March 2006 in Cape Town, South Africa. He was the first President of ARA, and following a change in the statutes, he became its first Executive Secretary in 2010.

Since 2020, he has been President Emeritus. ARA, now ARDA, is the Voice of the African Downstream Petroleum Sector and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Mr. Dervain was born on October 1, 1954, has been married for 46 years to his charming wife, is the father of 3 beautiful daughters, and the happy grandfather of 4 wonderful grandchildren.
