Africa’s COVID-19 Response efforts took center stage on July 16, when IPIECA (www.ipieca.org) and the ARA hosted a session to highlight COVID-19 initiatives across the continent. The session featured panelists from Ethiopia (Tadesse Tilahun of National Oil Company), Ghana (Senyo Hosi of Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors), Nigeria (Amina Maina of MRS Holdings) and South Africa (Avhapfani Thsifularo of South African Petroleum Industry Association – SAPIA) who shared perspectives on response efforts in their respective countries.
Common themes included high-priority government policy responses, public-private collaborations to address socio-economic issues, technology-driven work efficiencies and need for better partnerships with new stakeholders (health-care authorities, etc.) to ensure business continuity. Overall, the lessons learned by industry players across Africa will ensure that the continent’s leaders are better able to weather any potential worsening of COVID-19 pandemic.
